Established in 1956 by Herbert Brause, Erich Meinhardt and a group of 20 engineers and technicians, Elektron OHG is the genesis of CONRAC, manufacturing machinery parts, home appliances and low cost recorders.

However, from a competition for language teaching equipment, the company won the contract with a prototype of a language teaching lab. By the end of 1960, the company was leader in this field.

Elektron’s OHG growing expanding trend encouraged its owner to consider a change in the legal structure of the company. Simultaneously, CONRAC Corporation (USA) was looking for a partner in Germany to market their video cards, having decided to proceed to its purchase in 1969. So, in the 70s the manufacturing of many products was transferred from the United States to Germany, where they were developed and adapted to the European standards, in the newly created Conrac Elektron, GmbH.

Following the acquisition, a new range of CONRAC products was introduced. Professional transmission monitors and information systems for airports, railway stations and sports stadiums, as well as small computers were added to the language teaching labs and voice recording systems.

In the beginning of the 80s, Conrac Elektron developed the first high resolution monitors (CRT) that were mass-produced in 1982. A short time after the first Auto-Trak™ monitors were introduced in the market, becoming a standard in the process control and many other industrial applications.

As soon as it was possible to manufacture the first flat displays based on plasma-colour technology, Conrac put all efforts in the development of signal processing for its new generation of monitors. In 1997, Conrac installed the first plasma colour screen at the Munich II Airport.

With the development of the TFT’s and LCD’s, the CRT screens were replaced. In 2011 the first public displays were introduced with dust-proof indoor (IP55) and outdoor (IP65) with touchpad function.
